DISPLACED PEOPLE IN THE MOLUCCAS - PENGUNGSI DI MALUKU
Monday 20 June 2011 World Refugee Day
The United Nations’ (UN) World Refugee Day will be observed on June 20 across the globe under the theme of “ Real People, Real Needs”, to honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to leave their homeland under threat of persecution, conflict and violence.
United Nations General Assembly on December 4, 2000, decided that from 2001, 20 June would be celebrated as World Refugee Day. This day was designated by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to bring attention to the plight of approximately 14 million refugees around the world. Angelina Jolie is one of the best known celebrities around the world, serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) says, “One family forced to flee is too many. … One child growing up in a camp is too many. One refugee without hope is too many. … Do one thing. Visit UNHCR.org, and learn how you can make a difference.” |
