Ratusan Prajurit Kostrad Akan Dikirim ke AmbonPrajurit Kostrad yang akan dikirim ke Ambon. 27/02/2003 Liputan6.com, Malang: Kota Ambon, Maluku, belum kembali normal seperti dahulu kala. Sebab sejumlah persoalan masih menanti buat dituntaskan. Misalnya soal pengungsi, rehabilitasi rumah, hingga perbaikan mental masyarakat. Beberapa waktu sebelum Sinyo didaulat, kawasan Maluku sempat memanas. Pertikaian antarwarga Desa Asilulu dan Ureng di Kecamatan Leihitu, Maluku Tengah, mengakibatkan tiga orang tewas [baca: Bentrokan Antardesa di Maluku, Tiga Tewas]. Selain itu, 18 orang dilaporkan luka-luka dan 25 rumah hangus terbakar.(BMI/Noor Ramadhan) Police detain Manuputty
The Jakarta Post March 18, 2003 JAKARTA: Police detained convicted leader of the Maluku Sovereignty Front (FKM) Alexander Manuputty upon his arrival on Monday from Ambon, his lawyer said. Lawyer Paskalis Pieter said that the Jakarta High Court issued an arrest warrant for his 55-year-old client as the court was due to hear his appeal. "He is being detained at National Police headquarters," said Paskalis. Manuputty was sentenced to three years in jail by the North Jakarta District Court in January for plotting a rebellion in the Maluku Islands. He did not attend his trial and remained free in his homeland. He was arrested in Ambon on April 17 last year after inciting his supporters to raise separatist flags, which were banned by the central government. The group wanted Jakarta to allow a referendum on self-determination akin to the 1999 UN-organized ballot in East Timor. -- JP http://www.thejakartapost.com/detailnational.asp?fileid=20030318.C12&irec=9 All contents copyright © of The Jakarta Post. 18/3/2003 16:33 AMBON: DETAINED CHRISTIAN SEPARATIST LEADERS TRANSFERRED TO JAKARTA Church/Religious Affairs, Standard The Christian separatist leaders Alex Manuputty and Semmy Waeleruny were arrested in Ambon(administrative capital of the Moluccas archipelagos), and were later transferred to Jakarta, where they are to serve their three year imprisonment sentence. It was reported to MISNA by the Catholic Crisis Centre Diocese of Amboina, specifying that the incident unleashed multiple reactions throughout the Moluccas. Several hundreds of supporters, most of them youngsters, accompanied their heroes starting from Manuputty’s house in Kudamati to Police HQ at Batumeja in a motorcycle cavalcade or on foot, shouting “merdeka” (freedom) and “Menamuria!” while singing various songs. Having arrived at Police HQ, Manuputty was given the opportunity to speak to the assembled youngsters, telling them to ke ep calm, but also promising that he would be back bringing them the RMS (Republik Maluku Selatan – Republic of the Southern Moluccas) sovereignty. At about 1.45 p.m. both FKM leaders were taken to Pattimura airport, Laha, by helicopter, from where they got on a plane to Jakarta. Before leaving they assured those assembled that next April 25 the RMS flag will be hoisted all over the Moluccas, considered a prohibited gesture on behalf of the authorities as it is a clear gesture of separatism. The FKM, not supported by the local Church, was accused by Muslims of fomenting the inter-religious clashes that from January 1999 to February 2002 afflicted the Moluccas. While the Christians point a finger at the Islamic extremists of the ‘Laskar Jihad’, whose leader Ja’afar Umar Thalib will be judged by a Jakarta court next Thursday.
